Pumpkin Patch Day!

Our annual trip to the Pumpkin Patch was a great success! Even Tony and Great Grandma Marilyn came along. We had a hayride, went thru’ the corn maze, bought hot cocoa, candy and pumpkins, of course. We walked thru’ a scary trail in the woods and we saw huge spiders and a skeleton driving and old pickup.

WE HAD AN EVENTFULL WEEKEND!

First a nice dip in the pool (even G’ma Nancy got in). Even tho’ I told Chris that I would displace enough water to drown their lawn…it turned out to be fun!

Then friendly neighbor, Dick Kuzel , came by to tell us he had lost 4 cows. Gayle told him to let us know if he found out where they were and we would help round them up.

A little while later, he had located them in a field about 2 miles from Chris’ and Gayle’s. So off we go with Payton and Gayle on Sheriff and Tequila, the bug, the 4-Wheeler, 2 of Kuzel’s pickups and Granny Nancy and Kari, with the twins, in my red car!

The first moment the horses laid eyes on the cattle, they tried to unvolunteer quite decisively. But, about 5 minutes later, they seemed to realize that chasing cows can be fun! In fact, Payton and Sheriff herded them for about the last mile at a dead run, and so we nominated Payton for official cowgirl status. She looked amazing. Tequila proved to be a good cow horse too. Unfortunately, they were too deep in the field for me to get any good videos!

Altho’, the horses did manage to get them to the barnyard, they kept breaking thru’ their fences and getting away again. Finally the round up was called off, with one cow in little white freezer packages, and 3 still missing.

Kari and I spent about an hour with the boys in the car, waiting for them all to get back to Kuzel’s place. The boys kept us entertained, tho’.
Their answer to boredom, is a little bit of red juice around the mouth, and to sing along with Mary Chapin Carpenter!

The exciting end to the day, was when Payton and Devon were in the stable, hosing down their tired horses. And G’ma Nancy was trying to help them. Kari took the twins back to the house and Chance managed to lock himself in my car!
Thank heavens for Onstar!!! He did decorate my car with a tube of chapstick while we were making that call. When he was released, Chase ran over and gave him a big hug. Then Chance kept asking me, “Call Onstar?”

On Monday, they even had spray pilots up looking for the cows...hey, maybe Onstar can find them!
